This spring is one of the 30 officially honoured mineral water springs in South Tyrol. Already before the 18th century a tavern named Cortina was known in St. Vigil.
In 1780 it has been noted the first time, that beside the tavern a "Baad" existed, which has been operated until 1806.
This year a mudflow destroyed the spring. In 1830 the spring has been rediscovered and a bath house has been built.
The first analysis of the water have been made end of the 19th century. At that time the bath house was part of the close-by Hotel Post in St. Vigil.
Because of this first analysis the was recommended against haemorrhoids, female complaints, hypochondria, gout, podagra and scrofula and was administered to stimulate the kidney secretion and for defecation. After the economical slump because of the two world wars the bathing service has not been resumed. In 2003 the holder, the spring, as well as the line of the spring to the "Aqua Bad Cortina Oasis Hotel" has been renewed.
The water of the sping of Bad Cortina is characterises as sulphate-fluoride and calcium containing water with iodine and traces of boron, barium and bromine. It is classified as moderate mineral containing water (conductivity 962 µS/cm).
